GT:THE BIG 3
GT:THE BIG 3
Since the start of this edition of the IPL, Gujrat Titans has been a team who has been heavily dependent on its TOP3 for the bulk of its runs. They start slowly but consolidate at the end.
Sai Sudharshan[509 runs], Shubman Gill[508 runs] and Jos Buttler[500 runs] after these 3 the next top scorer is Sherfane Rutherford with 229 runs in 8 innings.
BOON OR BANE:
One can argue that why is their a problem... its good that the TOP 3 are scoring well but this can surely be a concern as the middle order has not had enough game time which is very important no matter how big a player you are.
What would happen if they lose the TOP 3 quickly in the Playoffs is the biggest question in my mind.
COULD HISTORY REPEAT?:
As painful as it is to think about the CWC19 SF against NEW ZEALAND .... that match was a perfect example of how less game time and dependence on the TOP 3 can put a team in a pickle if they are out early.
From 2017-2019, ICT had the best TOP ORDER it has ever had with Rohit Sharma , Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan and also KL Rahul after Dhawan's injury.
We all saw how they failed in that SF after dominating the group stages, and there are chances this could happen to GT.
MI vs GT:
One of the most thrilling matches of the IPL 2025, a match that had it all gave us a glimpse of how a team dependant on its TOP 3 can struggle even after them giving a great start.
It was the first instance when one of the batters from GT's TOP 3 did not play till the 17th over.
From 113-3[Gill's Fall of Wicket] they went to
147-7 chasing the total where once again only Rutherford was the one who showed some glimpse of form other than the TOP 3
But can they turn it around from this situation in a high pressure playoff match is a big concern.
Conclusion:
These are my views on GT's Batting Unit and what I think could be a concern for them.
